Details: XL Recordings are very pleased to present the brand-new longplayer from Basement Jaxx, Scars. Their first new album in over 3 years.’Scars’, the band’s fifth studio recording, is another masterpiece in the dance-pop spectrum. With a host of special guests including Yoko Ono, Sam Sparro, Santigold, Kelis and Chipmunk, ‘Scars’ is as innovative in it’s sound as it is in its vision. Their sound still remains as urgent and as impactful as ever – There’s no need for Basement Jaxx to try and embrace any kind of retro outlook to their music. From the UK Top 20 smash hit summer anthem of ‘Raindrops’ featuring Felix’s twisted vocals, to the string-drenched, grime-esque title track ‘Scars’ and the gorgeous ‘My Turn’, which features Lightspeed Champion on vocals, Basement Jaxx deliver an album that outshines any dance act in the UK.Other special guests on the album include Amp Fiddler, Jose James and Yo! Majesty.Already a BBC Radio 1s A List, ‘Raindrops’ is a classic Jaxx slice of funky-house mixed with the band’s inimitable ear for a pop hook – perfect for dancefloor and radio alike, it’s already shaping up to be the soundtrack of Summer 2009.Selections:Raindrops
Artist And Album Information: »There’s a good reason why the new record is called Scars, » says Felix Buxton. « Making it has been a gruelling process. When we finished recording, it felt like we’d come out of a boxing ring. » His bandmate Simon Ratcliffe nods in agreement. « Sometimes it felt like we were boxing ourselves and giving ourselves the scars, » he adds. « Lots of things changed, both in our personal lives and the world around us, and sometimes we felt a bit lost. »Tough times, but they say a bit of hardship is good for the creative juices, and it’s certainly true in this case. Basement Jaxx’s fifth album is a return to the kind of form that saw them blow dance music apart in the late ’90s/early ’00s, with tracks such as Red Alert, Romeo and Where’s Your Head At. Scars features an impressive roll call of guest vocalists, including Philadelphia MC Santigold, burlesque dancer-turnedpop starlet Paloma Faith, lesbian rappers Yo Majesty, Black And Gold singer Sam Sparro and the legendary Yoko Ono. The punch-the-air chorus and pulsing dance groove on lead single Raindrops is vintage Jaxx, Twerk is a rowdy house jam while Day Of The Sunflowers (March On), featuring Felix’s surreal lyrics voiced by Yoko Ono over a muscular bassline, is one of the most ambitious things Felix and Simon have ever done. If they were lost, they appear to have found their way home. There are few things as reliably insane as Basement Jaxx. At this point, you kinda know what you’re gonna get when the dance-pop duo get together: genre-flouting uptempo craziness, intriguing guests, a healthy dose of the unexpected. PitchforkOnce considered the bright, shiny new things on the block, the London duo of Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe is now in the unenviable position of having been around long enough to be taken for granted. That should change with this new single, which introduces a glorious blast of pop into the house-music template they’ve perfected over the past decade through their own music and the countless remixes they’ve done for everyone from Daft Punk to Adele. If it were Labour Day, we could proclaim this the single of the summer. – John Sakamotos Anti-Hit List #1 (Toronto Star)Deluxe 6 CD panel remus pak
